Cameron Diaz Launches New Vegan Wine Brand

Posted on
T

his month, actress and author Cameron Diaz and entrepreneur Katherine Power released Avaline, a new line of vegan wine made with organic grapes. The founders discovered that wine is often made with fining agents derived from eggs (albumen) and fish bladders (isinglass). They then chose to create their wine using only vegan-friendly processes and without additives such as sugars, colors, or concentrates. “I enjoyed wine for many-a-year and never questioned it. Not once. I actually figured it was the most responsible alcohol choice because it was made with fermented grapes,” Diaz said. “But I had no idea of the process. One of the first conversations Katherine and I had about making a cleaner wine was, ‘What are we going to add to it?’ We soon learned it wasn’t what you added, it’s what you didn’t add.”

In their effort to set a new standard in winemaking, the duo sourced grapes from organic farms in France and Spain—that could produce Avaline on a large scale—that use low-to-no irrigation methods to ensure that no harsh chemical pesticides are used in the winemaking process.

Avaline is launching with two wines: Avaline Rosé (featuring melon and zest notes made with grapes sourced from France); and Avaline White (a dry, crisp wine made with grapes sourced from Spain). “As Cameron and I spent two years developing, tasting and refining Avaline, we could never have imagined the world in which we all find ourselves today,” Power said. “But it’s clear to us that, as we navigate the important complexities of 2020, it has become more vital than ever to find joy in small, everyday moments. Avaline was created for those very moments. When we’re cooking dinner, unwinding at the end of the day or catching up with loved ones, Avaline is here to bring lightness and positivity.”

Avaline is currently available at a suggested retail price of $24 per bottle on Wine.com, select retailers in 43 states and the District of Columbia, and will soon be available for purchase on the brand’s own website
